Can’t decide whether to do a live webcast or just make it available on demand? Here are some factors you may want to consider:

WHY GO LIVE?
  • Participants can interact in real-time with the presenter.
  • Timeliness of the content is important.
  • Presentations are more spontaneous and authentic.
  • More urgency – people tend to put off something they can do anytime.
  • Some professions require their members to participate in live events to obtain continuing education credit.

(Of course, most live webcasts are also archived for later on-demand viewing.)

  • Can be recorded at a convenient time for the presenter.
  • Can be scheduled at multiple times to create more convenient options for participants.
  • Content can be edited.
  • Participants can review content over and over again.
  • Generally meets “live CE” requirements.
WHY NOT OFFER ALL THREE?

To make sure you meet the needs of your entire audience, you might want to consider offering all three options. You can begin with a truly live webcast. Then, you can schedule several simulated live events on different days and times of day – even evenings and weekends. Finally, make it available on demand so it is conveniently available for those who haven’t been able to watch the live or simulated live webcasts or for reviewing by those who have. Once content is already produced, there is almost no additional cost to make it accessible in multiple ways.
